What… What Would Ya Say You Do Here At {Insert Company Name Here}?

UPDATED: Working at Zappos and Working at Wingman Media

Well, I generally come in at least fifteen minutes late, ah, I use the side door - that way Lumbergh can’t see me, heh - after that I sorta space out for an hour. Yeah, I just stare at my desk, but it looks like I’m working. I do that for probably another hour after lunch too, I’d say in a given week I probably only do about fifteen minutes of real, actual, work.

LOL, no, but, seriously,

Well-well look. I already told you: I deal with the goddamn customers so the engineers don’t have to! I have people skills; I am good at dealing with people. Can’t you understand that? What the hell is wrong with you people?

Oh, man, sorry, had to toss those two pricey quotes from the movie, Office Space, in here before I got down to the nitty gritty of my job (and its tasks).

So, with the jokes and quotes out of the way, let me get right to it. I recently began working for Zappos.com in their marketing division and, quite frankly, I love it! The office atmosphere is a dream come true and the people are all a pleasure to be around just as much as they are a pleasure to work with.

Currently, I run the daily reports for all of our associate numbers; I help to manage our associate accounts; I tend to about 50+ emails a day and complete the necessary tasks associated with them; I participate in various conference calls; I meet with business professionals (either in person or via phone) who are looking to establish/continue a working relationship with us; and I look for business development opportunities all across the web (BTW- If you feel that you or your company would be interested in some sort of business partnership, contact me directly).

And, that is pretty much the gist of my day job. By the time I get home in the early evenings, I take a break from the computer screen for about 30 minutes to an hour prior to booting my laptop up and working on my own personal endeavors. I couldn’t be happier with the work that I am doing for Zappos and I honestly couldn’t have found a better company to work for. Zappos strives in service and, if you ask anyone that has ever dealt with Zappos, they will tell you the same, I promise.

And, to keep this post in line with the rules for Cap’n BenSpark’s International Talk Like A Pirate Day, Pirates of the Caribbean Dead Man’s Chest DVD Giveaway Contest, I will now run the previous content through the trusty old pirate translator….

The pirate speaks,

“Well, I generally come in at least fifteen minutes late, ah, I use t’ side door - that way Lumbergh can’t see me, heh - after that I sorta space out for an hour. Ahoy! I just stare at me desk, but it looks like I’m workin’. I do that for probably another hour after lunch too, I’d say in a given week I probably only do about fifteen minutes o’ real, actual, work.

Hey Scott, thanks for the job update. It sounds like a great job when you’re happy to go to work everyday. ;) Talking to customers are cool as long as they’re not complaining.

Hey, AV, you’re welcome. And, yep, definitely a great job, man. If you are interested in moving to Vegas, let me know, I can pass your resume on. If not, at least let me know when you come to Vegas and I will get you a tour of the office…then you’ll know what I am talking about.

Take care, buddy, have a great weekend, AV.

-Scott

Cool Scott. I’ll take you up on that offer when I’m back to Vegas. We thought about moving to Vegas in 1999 when the housing was cheap.

Sounds good, AV. Yeah, the housing here has certainly risen since ‘99 (not as high as California real estate but, still, it has gotten high out here, for sure). If I were you, I would stay out there in paradise unless, of course, you were to move for work (or any other important reasons).
